Face masks legally required in estate agent offices from the 30th November

Face masks are making a comeback...

Face masks are now legally required in estate and letting agents from today according to new government guidance released overnight. The government referenced estate and letting agents, solicitors and auction houses.

The new guidelines came into action this morning at 4am on the 30th November and will be reviewed in three weeks time.

So what happens if I don't want to wear a mask? Well, the government has stated that anyone refusing to comply will face a fine of £200 for a first offence! This amount will double on each subsequent offence, reaching up to a maximum of £6,400.

It's safe to say, the government are taking these new mask policies seriously therefore we strongly suggest that people comply to avoid what could be quite a hefty looking fine.

Avocado's Stance

At Avocado we don't have any public facing offices, so does that mean no masks? Our take on it is this; We can't force people to wear face masks, but we can strongly encourage it for the safety of our partners and clients. Moving forward, we will be wearing PPE at all our appointments as we don't want to take the risk and we would appreciate anyone coming to an appointment to do the same.

“Wearing a face covering can reduce the risk to others and yourself against the spread of infection because they cover the nose and mouth, which are the main confirmed sources of transmission of the virus that causes coronavirus infection (COVID-19)” says the guidance, which you can see here.

Let's stay safe.
