Debbie & Andre's tips for moving home in 2024

Selling your home can be both an exciting and challenging process. To ensure a smooth and successful sale, it's crucial to make your home as appealing as possible to potential buyers.

1.Declutter: When you are clearing away your Christmas decorations, why not take the opportunity to have a full on declutter, it may take time but will be worth it in the long run and save you time when it comes to moving!  When buyers walk into your home, they want to envision themselves living there.  Start room by room and organise cupboards first which will make room for anything that you decide to keep and store.   The goal is to create a neutral, inviting space that allows potential buyers to imagine their own belongings in the home. A clean and clutter-free environment also gives the impression that the home has been well-maintained.

2.Curb Appeal Matters: First impressions are everything, and the exterior of your home sets the tone for the entire viewing experience. Enhance your curb appeal by tiding your garden, removing weeds and litter and trim overhanging bushes to give the illusion of space.  In summer a few colourful pots of flowers can make all the difference. Consider a fresh coat of paint for your front door, and make sure the entryway is clean and welcoming. A visually appealing exterior can make potential buyers eager to see what's inside.

3.Make Necessary Repairs: Addressing any needed repairs is essential before listing your home. Fix broken cupboard doors, and any other small issues that may catch a buyer's attention. Ensure that all light fittings have bulbs in, (this will help with winter viewings and any evening property photos).

4.Highlight Key Features: Showcase the best features of your home to capture the attention of potential buyers. If you have a stunning fireplace, make it a focal point by arranging furniture to emphasise this feature. Ensure that natural light is maximised by opening curtains and blinds.

5.Temperature: In winter, make sure that the heating is on.   The aim is for buyers to look at the features of your home, rather than be distracted with how cold it is!

6.Get the For Sale board up.   Let as many people know that you are selling your home. It’s surprising how many people look round areas that they are interested in living in and, it makes it easier for people attending viewings to find the property easily.

Preparing your home for sale involves a combination of strategic enhancements and attention to detail. By following these top six tips, you'll be well on your way to making your home stand out amongst the competition.
