Ian raises over £2300 for Dingley's Promise!

Ian Macbeth, Managing Partner at Avocado Property, took part in the London Marathon on Sunday 3rd of October.

He and his trusty friend Dingley Bear completed the gruelling 26.2 miles in 3 hours and 49 minutes, smashing Ian’s personal target of running the race in under 4 hours.

By completing the challenge, Ian also raised a fantastic £2331 towards the Dingley’s Promise Pandemic Recovery Appeal. All funds raised will be used to support children in the Early Years with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to overcome the impacts of the pandemic.

Ian has been a dedicated supporter of Dingley’s Promise since 2020, having previously completed a half marathon fundraising challenge for the charity. Throughout his marathon training he consistently raised awareness of Dingley’s Promise by sharing updates on social media and creating video blogs.

His achievement is made even more impressive by the fact that in the lead up to the event he welcomed a new baby daughter, completed an Endure 24 race, ran The Lexicon Half Marathon and suffered from injuries and illness.

We asked Ian how he felt about his achievement:

“I caught man flu three days before, which wasn’t the perfect preparation! I also injured my calf at mile 7 which made the rest of the marathon really difficult, particularly the last 90 minutes of the run. The thing that helped me grit my teeth and push on was knowing that I was raising money for an amazing charity. It was a privilege to be the solo runner for Dingley’s Promise, and I wouldn’t have got through it without them!”

What would he say to someone thinking about doing the London Marathon next year?

“I would warn them that it will be tough, but that it’s also the most amazing experience. The views of iconic London landmarks along the way are stunning and the atmosphere from the crowds is incredible.”

A huge thank you and congratulations to Ian for his incredible effort!
